Orkut Profile being added to Google Search
Some orkut profiles will appear in Google search results as an orkut OneBox. A OneBox is a summary of your orkut profile, including key details like your name, photo and location. A OneBox appears only when someone who is logged in to orkut performs a search on Google.com for their friends or friends of friends. Keep in mind that this project is still in its experimental stage, so for now, only a small percentage of orkut users will see the OneBox in their search results. You'll have the same privacy settings for the OneBox as you do for your full orkut profile, so no information you've made private in orkut will appear in Google search results. Additionally, if you wish to opt-out of the orkut Onebox altogether, you can do so by following these steps: 1. On the left sidebar of the orkut hompage, click settings. Note: Orkut and the search team both don't have a way to change whose profiles will appear in Google search results as a OneBox.

On top of the organic results (and sometimes at the bottom), Google shows OneBox results for queries that can be answered instantly or when a direct link can be offered.

Orkut worm hits 500,000 + users
As i already wrote about another similar Orkut Virus which uses the same technique as this Orkut worm created by Rodrigo Narrates
The Portuguese language attack exploited a vulnerability in Orkut's scrapbook feature to post malicious JavaScript code on a user's page.
The worm, which was reported yesterday by McAfee Avert Labs, had gained ground by spreading quickly from friend to friend.
The worm was transmitted when members received malicious scraps written in Portuguese. When translated to English, one scrap read, "2008 is coming. I wish that it begins quite well for you."
On viewing the scrapbook post, the code performed the exploit and downloaded a .js file to the user's machine.
The worm then took control of the user's account, sending out copies of itself to all of the user's friends and joining a group called 'Infectados pelo Vírus do Orkut', which translates as 'Infected by Orkut virus'.
With in the first 12 hours of the creation of the community the community got 400,000 members
Rodrigo says something like this about it :August 8, 2006 was the date he came to know about an XSS but at that point of time he didn't have perfect programming skills to exploit the hole. He says, at that time he wanted to hack as many communities and profiles as he could on orkut. The hole was fixed soon.
December 19, 2007 , he came across a similar XSS and this time he had proper programming skills to do what ever he wanted to. But his state of mind was a bit different this time. His attempt was not to hack or hurt anyone but wanted to show how destructive this can be if used for evil purposes.
The virus spread through Orkut's new tool that allows users to write messages containing HTML code. The ability to add Flash/Javascript content to Orkut scraps was only recently introduced.
The worm does not appear to download any other malicious programs. Security experts said yesterday that the malicious code has been removed from users' pages and the worm has been taken offline.
Symantec researcher Umesh Wanve said that, although the attack was largely benevolent, it is worrisome because it was launched simply by loading the user's Orkut profile.
"This worm illustrates how a simple script injection exploit could affect a large social networking site," wrote Wanve in a company blog.
"This worm could have been used for other malicious purposes, such as stealing cookies, exploiting other vulnerabilities or stealing sensitive data."
McAfee researcher Vinay Mahadik expressed similar concerns. "This clearly illustrates the issue with allowing rich content on social/professional networking sites, and not sanitising it enough," he wrote on a company blog.
Orkut Says About it :This week, the orkut team discovered that a user had exploited a bug in our scrapbook feature. As a result, many of you likely received scraps from friends of yours that they actually didn't send, and friends may have received scraps that appeared to come from you.
The orkut team responded quickly, and worked late into the night to fix the underlying issue and contain the spread of these scraps.
We believe that this action has been effectively stopped and you should no longer receive any more of these unintended messages. We appreciate your understanding in this case and hope that this did not create too much of an inconvenience for you or your fellow orkut friends.

Logout Script in Scrapbook (Tease Friends)
Well here is a small trick i used to tease few of my friends..
Copy the HTML Code below and paste it in your friends scrapbook.
Now each time some one including your friends visits that scrapbook he would automatically log out of Orkut.
Annoying nah... :p
Well here is the procedure to be safe from this trick
How to Avoid this scrap
if you want to avoid being logged off again when you see the scrap, you can block flash in your browser.
For firefox, download the following plugin :

In opera, you can disable the flash plugin.
How to delete this scrap
To delete the scrap with the logout script, first open your scrapbook(where the logout script is there), open any page(except the scrapbook) in a new window(don't close your scrapbook window).
When you open the new page of orkut, it'll ask you to log in. Enter your details and login to orkut. After login, go to your scrapbook page(which you had kept open), and delete the scrap which was causing the logout to occur.

CONS:
Jotting down all the pros, was an easy task. Their website and testimonials helped me through. But the cons were what I knew I would have to dig for, yet were so very obvious.
- First of all it was a heavy setup to download. I would not mind if it was worth it at the end of it.
- While using scrapboy, you are not notified if a friend is online or not. By logging into your orkut account, there is a module that atleast gives you a clue which friends of yours were last online.
- If you have grouped your friends on orkut, scrapboy does not reflect the same. It does not allow you to make new groups either.
- There is no option to delete any scrap. If you receive any offensive scrap and would like to delete it, you need to login to orkut through your browser. If you need to delete your own scrap that u posted erroneously, again you need to login to orkut to delete that. Then why the hell do you need scrapboy!!
- The software is slow and hangs up for few seconds while downloading new scraps. In all it’s a badly written software with many bugs around too.
- I am not able to see any pictures in my scrapboy messenger. All i see is a no photo image :(
- This software only shows me the first few scraps in my scrapbook when i click on View More... it just hangs up
- You cannot send links through this software.. well I send a lot of links to my friends...but i can't do that using this software it gives an error.
Well there are many advantages of this But there are also disadvantages of using this software.
I would rather remain at orkutting then using this software..
Hope the next version is even better then this one.

What To Do When Your Gmail or Google Account is Hacked
Well i have already written about How your account Gets hacked... and How You can get your communities back..
Now i am writing about what to do if your Gmail or Google Account gets Hacked...
It can be a nightmare if someone else takes control of your Google Account because all your Google services like Gmail, Orkut, Google Calendar, Blogger, AdSense, Google Docs and even Google Checkout are tied to the same account.
Here are some options suggested by Google Support when your forget the Gmail password or if someone else takes ownership of your Google Account and changes the password:
1. Reset Your Google Account Password:
Type the email address associated with your Google Account or Gmail user name at google.com/accounts/ForgotPasswd - you will receive an email at your secondary email address with a link to reset your Google Account Password.
This will not work if the other person has changed your secondary email address or if you no longer have access to that address.
2. For Google Accounts Associated with Gmail
If you have problems while logging into your Gmail account, you can consider contacting Google by filling this form. It however requires you to remember the exact date when you created that Gmail account.
3. For Hijacked Google Accounts Not Linked to Gmail
If your Google Account doesn’t use a Gmail address, contact Google by filling this form. This approach may help bring back your Google Account if you religiously preserve all your old emails. You will be required to know the exact creation date of your Google Account plus a copy of that original “Google Email Verification” message.
It may be slightly tough to get your Google Account back but definitely not impossible if you have the relevant information in your secondary email mailbox.

This virus that claimes to be a video is a .exe file which infects users computer and sends the same scrap to all your friends on Orkut, the virus installs "orkutkut.exe" and "imglog.exe" on the infected computer, the virus can easily be disabled by following the steps below:
- Kill both the process from the task manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC).
- Remove startup entries using msconfig.exe
- Delete the two above mentioned files from system32 folder.

Orkut Recently released there new feature through which you can add your Gmail friends as Orkut friends.. :)
This is one of the most awaited feature of Orkut..
Many other Social Networking Sites had this feature...They used this to invite more people to there site. Now Orkut have also introduced this great feature..
All the Google Talk users would be loving his feature as they can now invite or add there Google Talk friends on Orkut.

Well i feel sorry for the people who don't use Gmail Login, or have a different login for Orkut as they would not be able to use this feature. This feature is only available for Gmail as Orkut do not import address book at this time.

'Orkut has become integral part of Indians lives'
Chennai (PTI): Google's social networking site , Orkut.com has become an integral part of Indians' lives, a top official of the company said on Friday.
"We are quite pleased with what we have seen with both the loyalty and usage of Orkut in India.It seems to have become a very central part of people's lives and we are very proud of the fact that people get value addition," Shailesh Rao, Managing Director, Google India told reporters on the sidelines of a management seminar here on Friday.
Rao said Google had launched several products in local languages in India."Today, on Orkut, the users can transliterate using an English keyboard into Hindi, can view Orkut content in multiple regional languages," he said.
The MD also said the company had a lot more work to do in India and "our time in India is much more ahead of us than behind us."
To a query if other social networking sites were beginning to eat away at Orkut's users, he said "In fact, we are quite pleased with how users are taking to all kinds of services on the internet including social networking. In India, what we require is more diversity, more services, more options, more experimentation, more innovation. So I think it is wonderful there are more platforms that Indians can use and experiment lots of things."
Rao said the company's Indian operations had the largest number of employees next only to its US operations.
He said India would be the focus country for the company to carry out product and service developments.

Hate Clubs Mushroom on Orkut
If you happen to hate Big B's smug face, beaming across from every other channel, or those tireless 'K's' from Ekta Kapoor's 'soap factory', you now have space to vent your emotions.
Hate communities or hate clubs are becoming increasingly popular on social networking Web sites like Google-owned Orkut.
On Orkut, the Ekta Kapoor hate club leads the pack with a membership of nearly 76,468 and counting. Followed by Himesh Reshamiya (of the nasal twang) with 33,137 members; Shah Rukh Khan with 11,179; Greg Chappell with 7,659; yes, Mahatma Gandhi with 6,647; General Musharraf with 1,362; and the Big B with 1,410.Psychiatrist Sameer Parekh feels that such communities have become popular as they appeal to our hatred for certain things. Very true, but why would anybody hate Mahatma Gandhi and even have the audacity to start a hate group dedicated to him?
“People have certain amount of hatred, dislikes and complexities and they get a chance to express it on such communities. But, there are very few people who give importance to such things. They reinforce your point of view and you join them without giving much thought,” explained Parekh.
It is one thing to start a community to express common dislikes about regular things in life. Such groups even have a humorous tone. But, it’s another issue altogether when communities on the Internet hurt the sentiments of others.
Social networking sites are thus coming up with new methods to prevent the abuse of communities on the Web.
A Google spokesperson said,
“We take the abuse fo Orkut seriously and are constantly developing new tools to review inappropriate content on the site. Orkut users can report content to our reviewers by clicking the ‘report as bogus’ button. There are also tools for community owners to delete posts or topics, ban users and delete anonymous posts.”
“But, at the same time, we put a certain amount of trust in our users to notify us of violations. We have also introduced a priority reporting tool. It makes life easier for the police to contact us when they get concerns about content on Orkut,” the Google spokesperson added.
So, it is evident that measures ARE being taken to check the misuse of social networking sites such as Orkut, but regulating such communities is what still remains a problem. However, a group that came to my notice on Orkut entitled “We Hate Caste Feeling” is something acceptable in times like ours.

It's old and many people know about this feature...But recently Orkut removed the button which took us to the Orkut Map page.
"The friends map on orkut.com is a feature offering powerful, user-friendly mapping technology to see where all of your friends are located around the world. By clicking on any of your friends' pictures on the right-hand side of the map, you'll be taken to their locations on the map."
To see your friends on a map, go to this page (you need to have an orkut account). This Google Maps mashup uses the location information you put in your orkut profile.
You can now click on a friend’s profile picture to see their location on the map shown. Please know that if we don’t have map data for a particular region or if your friend chose not to put their location in their orkut profile, you’ll see a message “(not on map)” below their profile name.

Orkut going to add Scrap Alert Feature
Orkut is growing better and better day by day..
Now orkut says that it would be installing a new feature in few days called Scrap Alert...
With scrap alerts you can be on any orkut page and find out that you have received a scrap - that very minute. You could be browsing your friend's photos, and find out "hey! I just got a new scrap." Then you can click on the "Scrapbook" link to reply on the spot. This way you'll be free to explore all of orkut, comforted in the knowledge that when you have received a new scrap, you'll know about it that moment.This Feature would be in our control means if we want to disable it we can do it from our settings page..

Orkut Cute : Latest Version
Orkut Cute is a great software made by APCSoftware. I used to use it in the past some 9-10 months ago...The new version of Orkut Cute have arrived so you can download it...
Here is what ApcSoftware says about it :
Orkut Cute came to be with the intent to ease the access to your Orkut account. With it you can easily access your account and
quickly check your scraps. The program automatically logs in to Orkut creating an icon on the Windows system tray. All it takes to access your account is a double-click on that icon.
It also allows for you to send scraps to all your friends at once.
You can set up the program to warn you whenever someone sends you a scrap.
Characteristics:
- You can create several standard messages: they are stored in a database, so that you don’t need to type them all over again.
- You can choose to which friends you want to send your message
- Macroreplacement unique system. By placing the identifiers $nc$ or $nl$ anywhere on your message, they will be replaced by your friend’s name once the message is posted.
- By activating the “random messages” option the program will search messages randomly on its database everytime it posts. This way you will be able to create several messages and each of your friends will receive a different message.

Peta Goes to Police against Orkut
Mumbai, Nov 22 - Drop them from building tops, run them over with your car - are just some of the ways to kill dogs that Orkut's canine-hating members suggest while socialising online. Animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India has now complained to the police.
Peta accused Orkut, the social networking site, of promoting cruelty to animals and has demanded action against it by cyber cells of the government.
Peta has written to the Mumbai police and complained that among topics discussed on Orkut community sites was 'I hate dogs'.
Communicators on the site took part in discussions such as 'How 2 kill a dog'.
One member of the community suggested killing of puppies 'by dropping them from a building' and also admitted to throwing three puppies.
Another admitted, 'I have killed two by my car after 10-12 hard tries near my place. One was a small puppy on which I dragged my bike.'
In a letter to Mumbai's joint commissioner of police, copied to the secretary, Department of Information and Technology, Government of India and COO, Google, PETA has urged the police to immediately direct the website to block such illegal content.
It has also demanded appropriate action against the members who claim to have committed acts in violation of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Act) 1960.
'Instances such as these indicate a disturbing trend. People who are violent to animals rarely stop there,' said Peta India coordinator, campaigns and legal affairs, N.G. Jayasimha.
'A person who comes home and kicks the dog is probably just warming up.'
'Studies show that people who abuse their animal companions are likely to abuse their kids,' the Peta official added.

Well here is a nice greasemonkey script...You Guys would need Firefox as well as Greasemonkey installed to run this script
1) This greasemonkey script Post to All Communities was developed by Vijay.
2) This userscript posts a message on all the communities that you have joined.
Method :
First Download The Script.
Then Just change the following two lines in the postallcommunities.user.js file :
document.getElementById("subject").value="The subject of your post";document.getElementById("messageBody").value="The message body of your post";
3) In the message body, you can introduce new lines by typing "\r\n" wherever you want a new line. For example, "This is line 1\r\nThis is line 2" will make the post in two different lines.
4) making the changes, drag and drop the postallcommunities.user.js file into the firefox window, and install the script. To get the script running, just visit is the "Communities" page in orkut, the posting will start automatically. If you want to stop the posting, just click on "Home" and uninstall the userscript.

Well Guys Now You can add all the Bold, Italic and Underlined fonts into the personal section of your Profile...Along with that you can also add as many smileys as you like...
But there are very few people who actually reads your personal section of the profile..But still It's a great advancement..

New Flood Machine By Tree
Note : This Flooder Might not be working at the moment as i Have not personally checked it..If You know if it is working or not please do inform us..Just leave a comment below
As most of you might be aware of this that as Orkut changed there codes the Old Flood Machine stopped working..
Well then here is a new version of it...made by Tree
Its fast with great user interface...I don't know if it would work for those behind proxies..
Method to use it :
First of all Download the Flood Machine
After that Install Java Runtime Environment
Now Run it and then Enter the first Login ID and then the Last Login ID..
There passwords should be same...and only the number at the end should change...
Flood machine would automatically log them in and would start flooding the UID you have provided
User ID is the number at the end of the profile link..
Keep the delay according to your net speed...1000 or 1500
Keep the number of scraps per ID to 150 that's recommended !!

According to the WSJ Google said ads were on only 1 percent of Orkut pages and was a "test" of online marketing. Orkut is popular in Brazil and India, but does not have the influence of a MySpace or Facebook in the U.S.
Google removed ads on Orkut's site in Brazil in August after complaints from Brazilian nonprofit group, SafeNet alleged that Orkut contained illegal content on some users pages. Google maintains it removes illegal or offensive content when it is notified or discovers it.
Advertisers have been concerned about putting ads on social networks because they have little control of what type of image or text the ad might appear beside.
According to comScore, Orkut had 25 million visitors in August and was ranked 76th among Web properties globally. Google's search engine was the No.1 site with 383 million visitors.
Over at Search Engine Journal Loren Baker thinks Google is doing the right thing. "Pulling the AdWords ads in Orkut is a smart move by Google until they can learn how to better police the content being served on the Google property, and target their advertising accordingly.

How to add GTalk gadget to Orkut
This is a great Trick by Gaurav Verma to add GTalk gadget to Orkut.com ,now you can be in touch with all your gmail freinds inside orkut.It also has multiuser chat feature which i think is great .As this feature is still not available in the desktop client by google. * This Gadget recquires macromedia flash 8 atleast *

And one more news...Orkut have changed it's policies against those flooding Now you can only flood about 300 scraps per Profile...and after that your Profile gets banned for about 5 to 6 hours...

orkut in Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu!
Orkut have Updated and Included some more Languages in there Languages Section..

Viewing the orkut site in Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil or Telugu (or any one of our other 12 languages) is easy.
- Click the settings button under your profile photo (or click the blue settings link at the top of any page).
- On the general tab, choose your preferred display language from the drop-down menu at the top of the page.

Mass Friend Adder

Mass Friend Adder is quit famous in Orkut,,
I have already posted about it many times already..
and here is the Latest working version of it !!
This software will send a friend request to all the members of a community ...
Download the Mass Add (Portuguese Version) or Mass Adder (English Version)
Then Run the application and go to the Navigator tab..Then Log Into your Orkut account
then move to the mass adder tab and choose set-up
Now Enter the community ID in the first Box (it is the number after the Link to the community)
After that Click on Capture ID and then click on Add Profiles
That's it !!
Add all your friends to your Crush List
This is a great hack which would allow you to add all your friends to your Crush List,..
For this hack, we use two javascripts. One adds all the members of your friend list to your crush list. Thus, any girl, if has added you to her crush list, you are going to get the e-mail of your life from Orkut
So in 10 minutes you will get to know who all have added you in their crush list.
The second javascript removes from the crush list, all the friends you added earlier. Hence, avoiding your embarrassment getting caught adding a male to your crush list

Orkut was talking about changing it's Look...Now it has arrived..

And though we're updating out look, we're staying true to blue. We've added some rounded corners and new icons that make orkut look a little more sleek and modern. Check out a screen shot of the new homepage.
Don't worry if you can't see the New Look and your friend have got it..Because Google To start, will roll it out to a small group of users randomly selected, and will continue to do so until everyone is on the new site.
I think it would refresh the Orkut Experience..
But on the other hand it looks a little too confusing..

Orkut brought death for Adnan
A Mumbai teenager Adnan Patrawala, son of a businessman was trapped on Orkut and later he was murdered. Adnan’s Orkut profile says, I love mobiles, friends, my mother, fast driving, humorous, good looking, wanna become a pilot etc. Two or three weeks back he came in contact with Angel, a profile created by someone by utilizing the name of a girl. Scrapbooks of Adnan and Angel revealed that they were continuously talking to each other. According to scrapbooks, Angel was continuously insisting Adnan to meet her, but Adnan wanted Angel’s photograph first, which was never sent by her. In reply Angel said " Don’s worry? m quite & gud looking, u wanna meet me??? Lez mette up na! wot say?" Finally on Saturday Adnan replied that he wanted to meet her, which became the cause of his death.
Sixteen-year-old was kidnapped last Saturday and then he was allegedly strangulated by his friends. On Monday evening Adnan was found dead in Navi Mumbai. Death of Adnan Patrawala has greatly shocked his family members and shockwaves have spread across the city.
Adnan was allegedly trapped and subsequently murdered by his own friends. Adnan Patrawala left his home on Saturday night to have a good time with his friends. By 12.30 am he called up her mother that he was in pool club with his friends so he would come back home in the morning. On Sunday noon, Adnan’s parents got a call from his mobile itself and the person on the other side told them that they had abducted Adnan, he was fine and they wanted two crores as ransom. Even Adnan talked with his parents and told them that he was fine.
Earlier Adnan’s parents thought that it was a prank but after few hours next call came, this time the abductors said strongly that they were not joking and demanded Rs two crores. After getting the call, Adnan’s parents registered a case of abduction in the nearby police station; eventually the police started the investigation. On Monday the police arrested three of Adnan’s friends Sujith Nair (28 yrs), Ayush Bhat (19 yrs) and Himmesh Ambavat (18 yrs) who confessed that they murdered Adnan Patrawala.
Sujith Nair is an ex-employee of a BPO while Ayush Bhat and Himmesh Ambavat are college-going students and they came in contact with Adnan through Orkut. Eventually the confession of three boys led the police to his Skoda car and his body in Navi Mumbai. By 7 pm the Mumbai police disclosed that Adnan Patrawal has been murdered and TV News channels flashed the news of his death.
Police investigations revealed that Adnan was trapped on Orkut by making a false profile, Angel. When police accessed Orkut, they found that someone had tampered with Adnan’s profile and his picture album, videos and all scraps before 20th August have been deleted. What is more startling is that even after the news of Adnan’s murder, someone was operating his Orkut profile. As the news of his death was flashed by the channels, hundreds of complimentary messages started coming on Orkut like ‘God bless your soul’, ‘May Peace be upon you’ and so on.
